Green with passion
It’s not every day that we’re asked to renovate a kitchen with green, but this one came together so beautifully!
When Dawn Wolfe started sending inspiration pics for her kitchen facelift, I was so excited and yet equally concerned. Did she really know what she was asking for? Most of our clients are asking for brighter, whiter kitchens, but Dawn had a different idea. During preliminary design meetings, I asked multiple times if she was sure about this design direction. It wasn’t until she invited me for a short tour of her home, that I began to see her vision. A very eclectic and earthy style flowed with seamless continuity throughout her home. That’s when my excitement overtook any apprehension and the old creative ember that originally called me into this business was fanned into flame once again.
Stone, chains, awl and hammer at the ready, I approached her cabinet sample with the purpose of telling a story. Weathered finishes do that…it’s what makes them so interesting. I took an modern cabinet door and made it look like it came from a 1940s mountain cabin. Patches of wormholes were made with the awl. Subtle chops on edges created the cracks of a solid wood, that has twisted yet survived the test of time. I rolled and tapped the panel with stone to remind us that kitchens always take a beating. Most labors of love for family and friends happen in our kitchens. From daily lunches, packed with care each morning for the kids, to birthday dinners, Sunday brunches and holiday gathering of all kinds - it’s not a stretch to say that our kitchens host the most important moments of our lives. A final touch of antiquing glaze burnishes the memories to life.
Please enjoy these before / after pictures and be sure to notice the pantry transformation! We were able to maintain the original footprint of her bi-fold door pantry closet and add new cabinets that proved to be a perfect marriage of form and function!
